Christmas at Central
As we enter the Advent season the displays throughout the building will help to remind us as we come for meetings or refreshments etc. what Christmas is all about.
This year a major feature will be an Advent Calendar. This will form a display in the Norfolk Room and in part it will be duplicated upstairs in the hall. On the main display there will be 16 ‘windows’ to open and Bob, our minister, will open these during the coffee mornings and on Tuesdays during Just Serving, offering brief comments, which over the period from 1st December to 22nd December will tell the story as recorded in the opening chapters of Matthew and Luke.
If you are not able to come and listen then do have a look at the Calendar when you are at church.
There will be a Christmas tree in the church and the Advent Ring candles will be lit Sunday by Sunday.
Christmas cards will be given out at our coffee mornings and at Just Serving to offer a message for Christmas and to give details of all our Services and activities during Advent. Some of the hightlights are listed below.
Nativity Service - Sunday 13th at 10:45am
The excitement is building up to the special service which will take place on 13th December. Once again the children and teachers of our Junior Church will perform their Nativity Play and will lead our worship on that day. This is a lovely occasion and we are very blessed to have both children and teachers who are willing and able to undertake this each year. The script for the play this year has been specially written by Jo Hudson so that all the children can play a part in the play.

Lunchtime Carol Service - Tuesday 15th at 1pm
Please come and join us for our very special annual mid-week carol service which will not only allow us to sing some of our favourite carols but will once again have as guests the choir from Woodhouse West Primary School. This has now become a significant part of our Christmas services and it is always good to welcome to Central members of staff of the school plus family and friends of the children. Please make a special effort to come and join in this festive occasion.

Carol Service - Sunday 20th at 10:45am
This year we are having a service of Lessons and Carols at our morning service on the 20th and we invite you to join in this festive service.

Christmas Morning Service - 25th at 10:00am
The service this year will take place at Central at 10am and once again will be a joint service with members and friends from the Victoria Hall. As there is no public transport on Christmas Day there may be folk who wish to come along to the service and who require a lift from someone. Please would you contact either your elder or Bob and we will see if arrangements can be made to get you into town and back home on that day.

Joint Service - Sunday 27th at 10:45pm
The service on this Sunday will once again be a joint service with friends from the Central House Church and will commence 10.45am as usual. As in previous years it has been really good to worship together in this way and it is important that we grasp such opportunities when we can. We look forward to another uplifting service of praise.

Monday Munch
Each Monday at 7.45am there is a Prayer Breakfast held in the Norfolk Room the aim of which is, for those who are able, to gather together and pray for those who are involved in all the various Christian activities which take place in and around the city centre. These might include those who work for Christian Aid, SCCCC, SCEC, Churches Together in South Yorkshire, the Industrial Mission, the various Chaplains at the universities and other locations, the Wilson Carlyle College, ASSIST, the Archer Project, Ben’s Place, St Wilfred’s etc etc. The breakfast will not be elaborate but will be adequate and we hope that there will be those who feel moved to be part of this activity either regularly or “as and when”. Even if you can’t be there please recognise this as an activity which Central is engaged in and therefore which involves us all.
